Design Concept
Contemporary farmhouse, shallow open plan arrangement with dual orientation to maximise solar gain & provide views of scenic location.
Exposed sloping site, so ground was excavated to enable house to be cut into the landscape to provide shelter from prevailing wind, natural dry stone walls were used to provide shelter, privacy and security by dividing public front garden from private rear garden, in addition to linking the single storey Car port/ Garage building with the two storey house.
Simple forms were used with a restricted palette of natural high quality materials – Quartz sandstone walling & granite paving , zinc roofing & cladding , Silicone white render , Aluclad TG windows , composite soffit boarding & screens.
Construction Method
Solid concrete block on flat with External insulation system ( ETICS) combined with Thermal lite blocks at critical junctions to reduce Linear Thermal Bridging ( LTB ) , prestressed concrete first floor & flat roof , airtightness membranes & taping in conjunction with airtight plaster finish internally to external walls, triple glazed windows & doors.
