Extensions
Ian Black Architect has designed residential extensions of all shapes & sizes in urban, suburban & rural locations. Each design solution is unique to each project based on client brief , budget & restrictions imposed by the site . However , common to each extension is the aim of not reducing the amount of natural light to the existing interior with the addition of the extension . A well thought out Architect designed extension can add value to the property , in addition to resolving issues such as lack of usable space , and provision of additional accommodation . Relationship to the garden , private open space and neighbouring properties, orientation , shelter from wind, existing drainage , and rear garden access are all issues that influence the final design solution . In many instances ( but not all ) it is better to spend money on a well designed extension rather than uproot & buy another property. The most successful extension projects are ones that are not a ‘pastiche ‘ version of the existing property, but a contemporary style extension that has its own architectural identity and is’ of its time ‘ expressed in its form , materials etc.
