Monasterboice Extension

Existing house – Detached  two storey  house in a small semi rural cluster.

Extension –This project was part of a series of extensions comprising Porch , garage , and kitchen , dining /family space.

The existing house was cruciform in plan, and the design solution was to add the single storey kitchen extension between the two wings to the rear corner to optimise solar gain.

A single storey flat roofed extension with large  sliding doors on two sides provides access to an  ‘L’’ shaped patio and clerestorey windows  with high internal ceiling height to allow  the  maximum daylight and sunlight into the extension.

The existing external wall of the house has stone cladding , which was retained with a rooflight located  directly over  to allow the stone wall to be washed with both sunlight and daylight .

A simple palette of materials was used- painted render finish , with aluclad windows & aluminium parapet capping .
